Poppies

Poppies always strike me as special. There's something very real about them—a brightness without being ostentatious, a lightness yet an inner strength.

I painted this piece in oil on canvas with a palette knife. I wanted to convey the feeling of a hot summer day, when the flowers literally glow in the sun. The rich red and orange hues contrast with the soft golden background, imbuing the painting with warmth, movement, and life.

Textured brushstrokes create volume and allow the painting to be seen differently depending on the lighting. In the morning, the painting appears fresh and light, while in the evening, it takes on a deeper, more saturated appearance.

"Poppies" works well as a vibrant accent in a modern interior. The work is particularly beautiful against light walls, where the red flowers become the focal point and fill the space with energy.
